TUV SUD designated Coway as the official RoHS testing institute

Coway Designated by TUV SUD as First Official RoHS Testing Institute in Korea. Seoul, August 16 -- Coway Co. Ltd., a leading well-being household electronics appliances maker in Korea, announced today that it was designated by TUV SUD as the industry’s first official RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances) testing institute in Korea. TUV SUD is an authoritative certification organization of the European Union based in Germany. With the designation, Coway is now able to analyze and test the content of six hazardous materials contained in industrial products that are prohibited by the RoHS directive, including lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and brominated flame retardants such as PBB and PBDE. Coway's Water Analysis and Research Center has been designated by TUV SUD as the industry's first official ROHS testing institute in Korea.

The designation as an official RoHS testing organization by TUV SUD demonstrates international recognition of Woongjin Coway’s capability of analyzing hazardous materials, enabling it to issue test certificates for its own products as well as for those of other manufacturers that are equally effective with those issued by other specialized analysis certification institutions.

Coway expects to significantly reduce costs and time for testing its own products as the designation eliminates the necessity for relying on other testing organizations. It also anticipates it will contribute to elevation of reliability and trust of its products by more rigorously managing the content of hazardous materials.

Meanwhile, four other companies in Korea, including Samsung SDI, LG Philips LCD, LG Chem, and Hynix Semiconductor, had been designated as official RoHS testing institutes by TUV SUD.
